Master of Cigars offers a structured four-level cigar education, from Essentials to Master certification, with pathways in Cuban, New World, and Sommelier training.
Cigar Essentials (Introductory)
Designed for beginners seeking confidence with cigars. This course introduces the heritage of cigar culture, proper tasting, and etiquette. It is the very first step toward all higher Master of Cigars levels.
Cigar Fundamentals (Level 1)
This course builds fundamental knowledge for advanced programmes. Spanish cigar vocabulary and pronunciation are developed for fluent communication. The cigar production process is studied step by step to reveal its characteristics through deductive tasting.
Specialist in Cigars (Level 2)
Level 2 offers a choice of specialisation in Cuban or New World cigars. These credentials provide access to professional roles across the cigar industry. Completing both awards the Specialist in Cigars title.
Specialist in Cuban Cigars
Advanced study of Habanos D.O.P., Cuban tobacco regions, brands, and release types. Enables deep understanding of Cuba’s importance and enduring impact on the global cigar industry.
Specialist in New World Cigars
Program created in partnership with leading New World cigar houses. Explores global tobacco terroirs and varieties, highlighting the diversity and innovation driving cigar production beyond Cuba.
Cigar Sommelier (Level 2)
Formation where cigar knowledge becomes refined service. Focuses on recommendations, pairings, and guest experience in hospitality and retail. Reserved for holders of the Specialist in Cigars title.
Senior Specialist in Cigars (Level 3)
The Senior Specialist title is granted as proof of expertise by rigorous examinations in theory and blind deductive tasting. Pursued through Cuban and New World pathways. Attainable solely one year beyond completion of Level 2.
Senior Specialist in Cuban Cigars
Senior-level program for Cuban cigars presents a comprehensive overview of every brand, including current and vintage releases. Focuses on Habanos culture from its history to modern galas, events, and auctions.
Senior Specialist in New World Cigars
Provides an in-depth insight into both renowned and boutique New World cigar producers. Practical sessions devote special attention to refining the palate for precise blend recognition during degustation.
Senior Cigar Sommelier (Level 3)
Alongside high-level studies in beverages and service excellence, this program develops expertise in event organisation, cigar lounge management, and account oversight. A minimum of three years’ proven professional experience is required.
Master of Cigars (Level 4)
Master of Cigars Diploma is conferred for exceptional knowledge of the world of cigars. Courses are hosted in cigar-producing countries, granting privileged access to every stage of creation. To be admitted, candidates must complete the corresponding Level 3 program and succeed in a pre-admission interview.
Master of Cuban Cigars
This Diploma confirms mastery of every aspect of Habanos. Examination follows immersive visits to the famed tobacco plantations of Vuelta Abajo and the cigar factories of Havana.
Master of New World Cigars
This Diploma recognises absolute fluency in New World cigars. Training in the Dominican Republic or Nicaragua includes visits to selected plantations and factories. Concludes with rare engagement with tobacco leaves of diverse origins and varieties.
Master Cigar Sommelier (Level 4)
The highest distinction conferred upon professionals distinguished in both cigar expertise and service. Master Cigar Sommeliers are authorised to train and certify future specialists and sommeliers. Invitation-only cohort selected from Senior Cigar Sommelier graduates.
